The poker site is working diligently to ensure all players have a fair and level playing field
Virtually anything can be used for good or bad purposes, depending on who’s in control. The same goes for artificial intelligence (AI), which has made huge strides in its capabilities over the past several years. Just as there is no shortage of individuals who would use it for their own nefarious purposes, there are those who use it to stop them in their tracks. PokerStars is in the latter category, actively using AI to keep cheats and bots out of online poker. The result is a more level playing field for all players, as well as millions of dollars returned to players who had been found to be victims of the scammers.
AI is a powerful tool, and PokerStars relies on it heavily to keep its virtual poker tables clean and honest. It’s a full-time job that requires a team of software developers, players and data analysts, but the poker portal has figured out several important steps that have made it possible to limit the number of fraudulent instances on the site. A total of 2,800 accounts have been busted for cheating over the past year, leading to funds being confiscated and returned to victims.
A spokesperson for the poker portal’s Gaming Integrity Department asserted earlier this year in an interview with Cardplayer Lifestyle, “Our intention here is to reassure players that they have the full force of more than 50 of the industry’s finest programmers, analysts and ex-pro players looking after their best interests at the tables. Obviously, there are some details about our processes that we can’t share, but the more we arm players with the information they need to make the right decisions on where to play, the better. That goes for us, as well as our competitors.”
